What to Do When You Feel Like You “Can’t”

When You Feel Like You Can't

I don’t know what it is lately but I have been struggling with the overwhelm of how big things can be. Like when you take a step back and look at EVERYTHING it can just be too much. If you set a big goal, if you have a big want, if you want to start something new, if you’re not careful, the depth of it all can just swallow you up! And because of this, lately I’ve caught myself saying, ugh well I can’t do that. I can’t get there. I could never! But we can’t live our lives in this constant state of overwhelm. Staying stuck in this place of “that’s not available for me” because it’s just not true.

When You Feel Like You Can't

So if you feel me, this post is for you. Those of you who feel like you can’t start that business, you can’t imagine paying off your debt, you can’t figure out how to get out of a situation, you can’t get your life together, you can’t figure out how to get what you really want.

Just remember that you can. And you will, if you set your mind to it. You can get out of whatever situation you’re in, you can hit that goal, you can succeed. But we’ve gotta get out of our own heads when we feel like we can’t. When we feel helpless and like we’re drowning. We’re not. You CAN make it happen!

Here are a few things I’ve been doing lately to get me outta this “can’t” mindset I’ve been dragging along with me lately.

What to Do When You Feel Like You “Can’t”

Ask For Help

The prideful Katie hates asking for help. Lately I’ve been sucking it up and just talking to people. Sometimes I’m just throwing an idea out there and they love it and run with it. Other times I’m quite literally asking, hey, can you help me with this? Asking for a little help here or there can go a long way. Determine areas where you need help and don’t be afraid to ask or just talk to someone about it. Your mind will be blown at how opportunities and solutions to problems will come up if you just open up.

Small Steps in the Right Direction

I think we can all agree that small steps are how you get to a goal but you have to make sure you’re going in the right direction. Sometimes I *think* I’m making the right steps only to look back months later and think, huh, well, no progress made. So, just remember, take the steps and evaluate them. If you’re wanting to pay off your credit card. Cut the card up and don’t use it, just make payments. If you’re wanting to increase your income, set a goal and do everything you can to make sure you’re hitting those goals each month. (Even if that means getting a second job!) Set goals and track them! If something’s not working out, don’t hold onto it, ditch it and try something else.

Don’t Pull Back Even When the Going Gets Tough

I have a hard time with this one. I WILL NOT give up, but I will pull back. “Ugh, I need a break” I say or “I just can’t today” because it’s too hard. PUSH through that tough stuff. That’s how you get to the other side. Not by pulling back. Not by saying, I’ll do it tomorrow or next month. Do the tough stuff today. Keep your eyes on the prize and press on even when you don’t wanna!

Get off Instagram (or whatever is sucking your time)

I heard someone say recently “Yeah, watching Netflix is nice and comfortable now. It makes you feel good now. It’s easy now. But down the road it’s making your life much harder.” You’re likely procrastinating or putting something off to watch Netflix (or in my case scroll instagram) which makes things harder and more stressful on yourself in the days to come. Or maybe you’re putting off something bigger, like starting your business or really working your business or working on a big dream project. Putting those things off NOW only prolong where you are NOW. If you spent an hour of your instagram or netflix time every day working on something productive or income producing where could you be in 3 months?

Remember How You CAN

I know we all can get in our own heads. When I get down on myself all I see is all the negative, I pick myself apart and that is a sure fire way to diminish all passion you might have for whatever it is you’re going towards. So when you start to feel those thoughts creeping in remember – you can. Think of all the times you have accomplished something. The big goals you set and crushed. The of times you felt successful and strong and powerful and accomplished. That is you. Don’t forget her.
