Since I’m starting up a new Shopaholics Anonymous series, I thought it was the perfect time to bring back the Style. Inspire. Repeat. Series! I’m going to revamp the series a little bit and make it a little more manageable for me to create and for you guys to consume! So I’m going to do all looks in one post instead of spreading them out in 4 different posts, every week. So once a month, I’ll still pick one piece to feature and will share it styled 3-5 different ways! And I’m actually going to do two different pieces this month! Wahoo!
So first up, after all the denim shorts talk over the past few weeks, I thought I’d share my new denim shorts and how I’ve been wearing them. I’ve said it once and I’ll keep saying it, denim shorts are seriously a summer MUST HAVE for me. They’re a non negotiable in my closet and I need 2-5 pairs because I literally wear them that often in the summer! The pair that I’ve been living in was, as I mentioned in my denim shorts post, exactly what I was looking for this summer. A high waisted, distressed pair of denim shorts. I love the distressing of these and love the light wash! They’re perfect to wear with a tied up tee shirt, a cropped top, a fun, printed top and even layered with a tank and another piece like a kimono, cardigan or jacket layered over.
Tied up Tee Shirt
The higher waist, in my opinion, makes these a lot more versatile than the usual pair of low rise denim shorts. I like the way a tied up tee looks with the higher waist a lot better. I also think denim shorts can make you look a little boxy so the tied up shirt at your natural waist also gives me a little curve and makes a tee shirt and denim shorts actually flattering! Win- win!

Cropped Top
I also love a good cropped top, but only if it doesn’t show my stomach. Ha! So the key to this is pairing a cropped top with a high waisted bottom. This little off the shoulder ruffle top I scooped up last summer to go with my fun pants and shorts for the summer. It’s definitely a classic piece (hint hint for my next S.I.R. piece!) and there are so many different ways I’ll be able to style this exact outfit! I loved it with the tennis shoes and straw hat for a fun summer outfit!

Layered with a Tank & Kimono
I love a good layered look any time of the year but I especially love this sleeveless Show Me Your Mumu kimono! I’m just wearing a pair of denim shorts and a tank top but throw on a kimono, a vest, a cool cardigan or jacket and you can totally dress up the most basic of outfits, like a denim short and tank top combo!

Any Other Fun Top in Your Closet
This one goes almost without saying, but all your other cute summer tops will also totally go with denim shorts. Tank tops, button downs, sweaters, prints, solids, off the shoulder styles, basically all the other fun tops you have in your closet will also go with these adorable denim shorts!
