Alright ya’ll. I’m truly facing the inevitable here. I don’t want to face this and I definitely don’t want to put this out on the internet. But I’ve gotta. I’m 31 years old and I’ve got to learn how to get my a** out of bed. I can when I HAVE to, but when you’re self employed there are lots of hours in the day, so if I want to stay up until 2 am getting my work done I can. Right? Well, yeah, right, but is that responsible? No. I’ve GOT to learn how to become a morning person. Even if it kills me. And it might. Hahah jk.
Why I’m Becoming A Morning Person
So here’s the deal. I don’t HAVE to be at work until 11am, so I fell into this stay up late and sleep in trap. It was wonderful, until it wasn’t. I’ve recently realized I’m a morning thinker. My brain is most focused in the mornings so that’s a great time to work on blog stuff BEFORE I go to work. (instead of mindlessly staring at my computer in bed at night). I can write an entire blog post in the morning in half the time I can after dinner. So I need to capitalize on that! And save my evenings for more mundane tasks. (I’m all about maximizing productivity!)
I also have realized I’m a morning workout only kinda girl. I don’t LOVE working out. But I do love how I feel afterwards. I also don’t look forward to my workouts, so getting them over first thing is the only way I get them done. Literally the only way.
So, if I’m wanting to get a workout in and get a couple hours of blog work in BEFORE I go to work in the morning, we’re suddenly looking at a much earlier wake up time than my usual 8- 8:30 am roll out of bed time.
Ideally my morning would look something like this….
6:30 – Out of bed. Coffee and water to wakeup before my workout.
7-7:45 – Workout. My workout times vary, so they won’t always be 45 mins or some will be longer. But trying to be out the door warming up by 7am is the goal.
7:50 – Shower. I’ll hop in the shower immediately following my workout and let my hair air dry (If I washed it) and Immediately grab my computer.
8 – 10 – Blog Work. Two hours of uninterrupted blog work BEFORE I head into work is ideal. This won’t always be the case, and I usually have errands to run before work but even getting one hour of morning blog work done will be so beneficial!
My schedule is never super consistent (and it’s about to totally change this month) so I think that’s why it’s been hard for me to find balance and a normal sleeping schedule. But I really want to change that. And I think by setting it to a one month period I can really give it my best go for a solid month and hopefully create a habit out of it! I just recently read, Girl Wash Your Face, and one of the chapters was about breaking promises to yourself. How we, as women, will keep all those promises we make to other people yet break all the promises we make to ourselves time and time again. I’m making this a promise to myself. I’m going to be out of the bed by 7am every week day morning this month. And while this may sound so silly, it’s something I struggle with daily, and I think thinking of it as breaking a promise to myself, will really help.
So tell me friends. What’s something you want to change but have been resisting? Diet? Exercise? Waking up early? They’re all hard, but we’ve gotta do it for ourselves! Let me know in the comments!
