Word of the Year for 2021: Through

This year I’m not making any 2021 goals. I’m just promising myself I will do my best! But I am setting a word of the year for 2021 that I’m really excited for.

2021 Word of the Year

My word of the year is THROUGH.

2020 taught me a lot of things. But one of them is to stop looking ahead so much. I’m a very futuristic, forward thinker, (it’s one of my top strengths on the strengths finder test!) But that also means it’s hard for me to just enjoy where I am. I’m always looking to the next thing. Wishing, dreaming, saying, “when we get to ____”, but 2020 really made me realize, we are where we are. Life is lived RIGHT NOW.

I chose this word as a reminder for two different reasons.

First it’s to remind me to enjoy the now. Live in and enjoy the little moments of the now instead of putting things off for bigger and better. And second it serves as a reminder that you have to go through to get to the next big thing. I shared last night on instagram the story of our engagement to marriage journey. We had no clue how we were going to get from engaged to married, but we made it through. I have no idea how I’m going to get to the next step in my business, or life, but I will focus on the “through.”

Through. It’s enjoying the journey instead of just looking to the next thing. It’s embracing the process, learning to enjoy the work, and the daily small things versus the big long term goals. It reminds me to embrace the daily work.

Someone once said, “the magic is in the work you are avoiding.”

And I believe that. You don’t get to your big moments by skipping over some parts. You must go through it all.
