We’re officially at that point mid winter where I’m so sick of wearing black tights. They’re so easy to throw on with dresses and skirts and I’ll admit colored tights have always been a little daunting to me. So, I took on a little experiment and picked up a few fun colored tights and styled them with shoes already in my closet! Everything from brights to patterned to wearing tights with sandals.
Bright tights: A fun way to wear your bright tights is along side more brights! Pick a favorite pairing and go with it. Here I paired a dark purple with a teal shoe and a brighter purple with a lighter purple/pink shoe. I would say stick to those two colors throughout your outfit (like I did here) or keep everything else neutral with one more pop of color. Maybe a teal clutch or a purple scarf to tie all the colors together.
Monochromatic tights: I love the monochromatic look and matching your legs with your shoes is no exception. You match your black tights with your black pumps so why not try it with blues or reds (seen here)? One misconception about this trend is that your colors have to match exactly. Not quite the case. I think mixing and matching your hues is all the fun in a monochromatic look!
Ribbed Tights: I love wearing my ribbed tights with booties. These don’t have to be paired with booties, ribbed tights look great with pumps as well but I love how they are a great way to spice up your more casual looks. One of my go-to looks as of late is ribbed tights, booties and a shirtdress or even cutoffs and a sweater.
Patterned Tights: Pairing patterned tights with standout pumps or matching pumps is the way to go. I love pairing the lace tights with a fun, more playful shoe and the brown on brown for a more office appropriate look that’s a little more unique.
Basic Tights: A different way to style your basic colored tights is with a sandal. I think most of us push the open toed heels to the back of the closet when winter rolls around but don’t forget you can always wear them with tights. Just make sure they are still appropriate for winter time (please no espadrilles). Both of these suede open toed heels are great for tights. I love how the burgundy tights really make the black heels stand out (something that you would overlook with black tights). And the camel color of the two toned heels really pop from the black tights.
Shoes left to right: Steve Madden, Jessica Simpson, Target, Zara, Pour la Victoire, Zara, Joan and David, Ann Taylor, BCBG Generation.

Such a cute post idea! I get sick of black tights too — these are great options!
Thanks Kodi! It’s so easy to get stuck in that vicious black tights rotation!
Thank you for writing this post – I am TOTALLY sick of my black tights! I have a pair of navy blue ones (daring, I know!) that I’ve been meaning to bring out – thanks for the reminder!
So glad you’re with me on the black tights! And I totally know what you mean… even Navy tights get forgotten about because they’re not as easy! Bring ’em out! 🙂
Love it, but I’m not brave enough for colored tights…
Start out with baby steps! Navy and burgundy are great options!
OMG Katie!! Do you have the style number for the Jessica Simpson camel colored heeled!! I absolutely love them and can’t find them online to purchase to wear with my tights!
Great looking colors above those I would not only love to have but also wear as fashion .
