I am a bargain shopper – something that I have most definitely inherited from my mother. It definitely is a great way to shop ( I very rarely pay full price for an item) but I can be VERY much pressured to purchase during a sale! With that said, I’m not encouraging anyone to buy everytime something is on sale but I do have a few tips on how to get the best prices!
1. Emails. I know it’s annoying when you wake up and have about 30 emails from all different retailers telling you about the newest items and the latest sale but they can be your ticket to some pretty sweet deals! To prevent going through each and every email, know what items are on your wishlist and take a mental note. That way you know to keep an eye out for J.Crew emails so you can grab that dress you’re lusting over.
2. Shop around. If you see a pair of heels at Dillards that you want, chances are someone has them for a better price. Get the brand and style name, go home, and do some research. Sometimes you will be shocked at how cheap you can find some items! Of course it doesn’t always work out this way but sometimes it’s totally worth it when it does.
3. For big items that can wait, wait! If you have a seasonless, timeless item on your wishlist that can wait, (for me it’s a pair of Hunter boots) wait for a site wide sale! Piperlime often will do a 20% off sale (going on now!) and Shopbop always has one every fall and every spring (that’s when I got my navy Parker dress). This is a great way, and often the only way, to get discounts on items that don’t ever go on sale.
4. Remember things go on sale! If’ you’ve found a great pair of Steve Maddens think about what time of year it is and if you can wait a few more weeks, more than likely they’ll go on sale! Now you do have to know your brands for this one. Know that some brands like Gap and Old Navy have sales all the time while others like J.Crew and Ann Taylor don’t as often.
5. Discount shopping sites. There are tons of great sites like Rue La La, Gilt, Haute Look and Ideeli that have regular flash sales where you can get tons of designer goods for a discounted price! I like to keep an eye out for their jean sales and they always have great shoe sales! If you’re like me and don’t have time to check the sales everyday at their start times try looking at their shop schedule and you can sign up for reminders. I had my eye on a pair of Elizabeth and James sunglasses and made sure to set a reminder so that I didn’t miss out.
One last bit of advice if you’re ready to start discount shopping – everything at Piperlime is 20% off today and everything at Gap, Old Navy and Banana Republic is 30% off through the end of today! I’ve picked a few of my favorite items below, what are yours?
I almost never buy anything full price, you’re getting ripped off 99% of the time. Great tips! x
