Balance is always something I strive for but never really attain. But that’s ok. I’ve come to realize that striving for balance gives you a little more flexibility, but actually forcing the balance is the opposite of what I actually want. So in the end as long as I’m balancing my balance, I’m doing my best? Make sense?! Ha! Well maybe you can catch my drift. I want balance, but don’t want it to rule my life.
I also think my definition of what I’d like to be able to balance changes with the season so I thought I’d share a little more about my summer balance today. Summer is the one season I feel the freedom to really take off work, slow down, get outside and HAVE FUN! I can brush off the pressure of sitting down at my computer and just go, and I love that! I’ve taken time off the past few weeks which is great but I’ve also really busted it when I’ve been working. (I’m really starting to see the benefits of batch working! Wahoo!) So here are a few areas of my life I’m balancing for summer.

Finding My Summer Balance
Work: When I’m working, I’m really working. I’ve decided if I’m choosing to work over lounging at the pool, I’m busting through that to-do list so that when the weekend hits, ya girl can go to the pool with no regrets. This mindset totally motivates me and helps me power through my work during the week. I’ve also been batch working and that totally gets me in my zone. Last week I took about 5 hours, made graphics for all the My Kind of Lovely emails for the week and scheduled them. What a load off when that task was done for the entire week! Over the past week I’ve also spent 8-10 hours shooting content for Pearls & Twirls. I’m pumped to have powered through getting all those photos that way I can enjoy my weekends and not have to worry as much about getting all the photos done. I also don’t mind working longer hours, less days a week in the summer. If you have a more flexible work schedule, this is totally the way to go!
Saving/Spending: I just booked a Destin condo for a long weekend for Jared and me next month. So instead of not financially planning for a little beach vacay, I’m already stashing some money away for that trip! That way I can just reach for my stash when the time comes and not have to stress about it. I think having a little fun money set aside is always important to keep around in the summer time! When long weekends or fun day time activities with friends come up you can just go!
Eating Well: I can be a lot less disciplined in the summer with my eating. It seems like hamburgers on the grill, summer time drinks, ice cream and more are always popping up and I am not saying no to any of those things! I just try to do my best when it comes to eating. I eat the hamburger, drink the drinks and may even have 2 servings of ice cream (it’s my favorite!), but it’s all about moderation! Don’t do that everyday! I keep my fridge and my pantry stocked with yummy healthy food to keep me on track for all the other meals!
Working Out: Work out in the morning! Summer is also the season where, “we’re at the pool tonight, come by!” or “just stay for one more glass of wine” comes up more often than not! So I like to get my workouts in every morning in the summer so I can have one less evening obligation when something does come up. And if you did get your workout in, no need to feel guilt when you do have a glass of wine!
Take the Time off and Have Fun! Summer is a slower season at My Kind of Lovely so its nice we can not feel too much work pressure from taking time off. But, as someone who loves to work and loves to stay busy, it’s nice to just let yourself off the hook, take the time off and freaking have fun! Happy summer, ya’ll!
