Saying Goodbye to MKL Madisonville

Hi friends! Welcome back to regular scheduled programming. Aka I’m back to blogging on a regular basis. This past month, as you’re about to see, has been nuts, so in December when I decided to take a little blog break in January, I was happier than ever that I decided to do that. But we’re back! My everyday schedule is about to change pretty significantly, all for the better, and I’m really excited to start posting here on a more consistent schedule. More on all that later, let’s get to the good stuff shall we?!

Caroline and I have some pretty big My Kind of Lovely news. If you’re following us over there, you may not have seen the announcement, but we’ve closed our My Kind of Lovely Madisonville store. This was one of the toughest decisions we’ve had to make in business but we knew it was the right one. It all boils down to two things. People are busy, it’s hard to make time to shop in stores and stores are really expensive to keep the doors open and take up a lot of time. Oh, and add in the fact that neither Caroline or I live in Madisonville and that takes it to another level.

On one hand this store was our BABY! We started there, we had all our firsts in business there, we’ve created all we’ve created out of that store. We transformed that place from a yucky old office building to the quaint and charming little boutique it was. It truly was our happy place. We knew almost everyone in town, they knew us, loved us and wanted to shop with us. This little hometown girl owned shop has sparked so many other shops and stores to open up downtown just in the past couple of years! 4 new ones on the square where there were none before we moved in!

Our families are here, we have friends here, Madisonville is home and that’s why a store in Madisonville has always been something we’ve really loved. We have connections with our customers. Our customers appreciate us, love us and want to come in to see us. And that’s why it was so hard to make this decision. We hated to let our customers down, we didn’t want to seem like we had “failed,” we didn’t want people to feel like they weren’t appreciated, or that Madisonville wasn’t important.

So when we announced we were so scared for the reaction. But it was even better than we ever expected. Everyone was SO supportive. We were uplifted, thanked, loved on and more. And for this we will forever be grateful. We will forever love on our Madisonville people and we will never forget My Kind of Lovely Madisonville. We still love that little store.

So What’s Next for My Kind of Lovely?!

The reality of shopping retail is this…. little ole My Kind of Lovely is in competition with places like Amazon and Nordstrom because we’re all online. We ALL shop online, don’t we?! So when people shop their weekend outfit on Amazon because they were already placing an order for something, just added in a cute dress for $20 and get it in 2 days, that hurts little ole us. You’re not getting a cute boutique feel, you’re just buying a cheap-o dress from China to get in 2 days. It may fit, it may not, but hey it’s a new dress.

So what are we doing? We’re going to do our best to stay competitive with Amazon in that department. Cutting back on our in store time is going to allow us to provide way better customer service in our online department. We’ve gone to free shipping all the time! Because who doesn’t LOVE free shipping?! We’re going to be able to ship things faster, especially to our friends in the southeastern region, you’ll get things in 2-3 days from your order date. And we’re going to do our best at getting new arrivals online quicker, with more variety, and start sharing these new arrivals in new and exciting ways! It’s going to be a LOT of fun!

We’ve found that so many people would order and just pick it up in the store. They were just running in grabbing their order and leaving, so why not simplify that for all of us!? We think and hope this will allow our online space to grow and flourish instead of being the last thing on our to-do list while we’re doing all the other things in the stores.

So with all that said, there are lots of new arrivals online to shop – wahoo! They just launched last night! So make sure you’re following us on instagram @mykindoflovely and check us out at mykindoflovely.com and sign up for emails to stay in touch! There’s lots of fun coming up and you won’t want to miss it!

xoxoxo, love y’all!
