How To Get Unstuck & Get Inspired for 2021

The new year always gives me a sense of freedom – I can do whatever I want this year! The opportunities are endless!! I always feel inspired and excited to see where the year takes me. But of course with all the twists and turns of life, that excitement wears off after a few weeks and life goes back to normal. Maybe you’re starting the new year excited, or maybe you’re starting the year feeling a little down. Either way, I’m going to share one great exercise with you that will be great if you’re feelin’ good or if you’re feeling stuck! And it’s your answer for how to get unstuck too- it has helped me tremendously! (you can also check out this older post with 5 tips on how to get out of a rut too!)

How to Get Unstuck

For me, I was feeling pretty down at the end of 2020. The year hadn’t gone how I had hoped it would. I had some failures and I had lost interest in things that had once excited me. I was feeling pulled in a million different directions and I didn’t know what to focus on or where to go from there. To be honest, I don’t typically take a lot of time to reflect or dream or set goals. I usually just barrel on through with work and things that need to get done. But this year was different. I decided that I was ready to make some changes and I got to work on what needed to change and how I was going to start making these changes.

How to Start To Make a Change

“Nothing changes if nothing changes.” I keep reminding myself of this quote. And let me tell you, it’s HARD to change. It’s hard to reprogram your thoughts and change your ways of doing things after years of doing it the same way. But it’s necessary for your process. So, if you’re stuck in a rut, or if you’re feeling like you need some change in your life, here are three questions to ask yourself…

  • What do I need to keep doing?
  • What do I need to stop doing?
  • What do I need to start doing?

This is a great, quick evaluation of areas you need to improve on. This can be for work, for parenting, for your relationships, it can literally apply to any part of your life. I started mine and have been looking at it every day. Some days I even add things to it as I notice them. It has helped me become hyper aware of the great things I’m doing throughout my days and also notice areas I can improve on. (My stop list keeps growing!)

It’s so easy to get comfortable and stay the same. Stay in the same place and do the same things over and over again. But it takes a really strong person to want to grow and push themselves and want to evolve.

One Thing I’m Changing

For me, I’m re-programming a lot of my thinking when it comes to blogging and my photography. I used to think I needed to go out and shoot in all these interesting places, my photos needed to be like everyone else’s or need to be like the people who really inspire me. But actually, my backyard is what makes me different. Not everyone has friendly cows who actually like to be in photos?! And y’all love to see them! So why not take more photos in my backyard for the blog?!

Instead of being overwhelmed by always needing GREAT photos to have something to post, I’m reminding myself that people actually like to see the real me. The cows, the regular outfits, the real life, the everyday, instead of what I *think* people want to see which is perfection. Sometimes you just need to sit down and break out of some mind blocks in your own head! It’s crazy what this little exercise can do for you! Hope you’re loving the photos lately! I’ll be sure to keep them coming!
