Find Your Sunset

We live in a world of constant sharing. We’re constantly sharing what we love, what inspires us and all the little pretties. And honestly it seems like everyone is always so dang happy! That all those new, fun things they’re getting, trips they’re taking and flowers they’re posting equal happiness. Obviously we all know those things don’t equal happiness. But everyone seems to be so happy all the time!

Find Your Sunset: How To Find Happiness

So the question is, what does equal happiness? Of course it’s different for each person but as I get closer to ending my 20’s (two weeks! eek!) I’m looking back on all the things I’ve learned in my 20’s and this path to happiness keeps popping into my head. I feel like we all have a false dream of “if this happens I’ll be happy.” Whatever point in life you’re in you think, if I could just get to point x I’ll be happy. If I can just finish school, if I can just have a baby, find a boyfriend, get married, find the perfect job, make more money, etc, etc, etc. We’ve all been there. We all look to the next step for happiness when in reality that next step typically makes life even harder! Funny how that happens right?! We’re always chasing it yet never feeling fulfilled.

How To Find Happiness

When Jared and I first started dating we didn’t see each other very often (we still don’t actually!) but we would spend hours on the phone with each other just trying to get to know each other better. One of the questions he asked me was, “what makes you happy?” And I’m pretty sure I gave some canned response, like friends, family, etc. And he said, “No, what are things that actually make you happy. Like real things. It can be anything.” In that moment I started thinking about real things that bring me happiness and I realized I very rarely make those things a priority. I never just schedule a night to do something that makes me happy. Imagine how much happier we would be if we just remembered to do something every day that brings us joy? Or every week for that matter!

How To Find Happiness

I’m sure the little things that make us happy will always be changing. We’ll tire of some things while also finding incredible new things to make us happy but I do think it’s important for us to work on our daily happy’s. After all that’s what helps us get to that “next level” of happiness! My goal is to incorporate one bit of happiness into each day. I even have a reminder in my phone! If you remind yourself of your end goal of happiness every single day I think you’ll look at your days a little happier. So I wanted to share a few little things that make me happy and I hope this post inspires you to think about what makes you happy and take a little extra time each day to celebrate that!

How To Find Happiness

  1. Feeling Accomplished – Lately I’ve been reading more, spending more time with God, eating better, working out, listening to podcasts and I can not tell you how much happier in work and just life in general I am. I’m more productive and at the end of the day I feel proud, accomplished and happy. In all aspects of life, not just 1 or 2.
  2. Spending Time Outdoors – So easy. Just step outside! Get some fresh air! Go for a walk! Stop and actually watch the sunset! It’s not hard. But it definitely makes me feel better. Springtime always reminds me of how much I love to just sit outside in the warm weather. A glass of wine and a friend is preferred.
  3. Sno Cones – I don’t know why these make me so happy but they do. I freaking love sno cones. And I’m pretty sure this was one of my first things I told Jared when he asked the second time. Happiness in a cup right there.
  4. Quality Time with Friends, Family and People I Love – Quality time is my love language and it’s definitely something I LOVE. I love just being around my friends and family doing nothing. Sitting, talking, eating, drinking, playing, exploring. Whatever it is I just love being surrounded by those I love. And I never take that for granted.
  5. Live Music – I’m such a sucker for live music. I love good concerts, cover bands and even just little solo guys singing on a patio! I love the atmosphere, the way it makes people feel and most of all how it makes me feel! Yet, I’m not even sure when the last concert I went to was. I think it’s time to change that.

Start your Monday by making a list of a few things that make you happy and try to incorporate a few of them into your week. Then let me know how much happier your week feels! Happy Monday friends!
