I used to never really consider myself a creative person. I always felt like a wannabe when it came to being creative. Almost like I wasn’t unique enough to be a “creative.” But deep down I’ve always really wanted to be creative and pull these really cool ideas out of thin air and make them happen! Like an artist, a florist, a photographer, a clothing designer. Like how cool are those people?!
Has anyone else felt that?! I know I’m not the only one! And if you’re shaking your head yes, I know you need to hear this, so let me break it to you….everyone has some creativity inside them! Yep, even you!
Creativity is different to all of us. It’s how we dress, how to do our hair, how we decorate our homes, how we cook, how we adventure, the tattoos you get, it literally can be anything! We all have some kind of creativity inside of us! Some of us just use it a little more than others!
But Does Being Creative Mean?!
I think to really explore your creativity you have to have some fun. You have to dismiss all the worry of what will people think? What if it turns out weird? What if I suck? And just try out some things that are fun for you! Try new outfits, new recipes, cool new shots on your iphone, do some fun things on social media! Creativity doesn’t mean you have to be great at it the very first time! It’s just the freedom to have an idea and run with it.
I think the number one thing that drains all our creativity is trying to fit inside a certain box. We look at other creatives and think we’re not as good as them so why try?!
Why try?!
Because everyone needs to see someone else’s beginning. That’s why. You don’t get to where you’re going on day 1. So go try something creative today, friends! And if it sucks, laugh about it and try again tomorrow. Seriously. Creativity isn’t a race, it’s a journey. And I don’t think we’re challenged near enough to go out and do something creative. So here’s my challenge to you – Go suck at starting something new!
Being creative has changed for me over the years but lately I’ve really craved creative collaboration. Shooting with other photographers, trying out new brands and new types of clothing and accessories, just going out of my comfort zone to try something new and different. Lately I’ve been craving something new, and it feels great to push my creativity!
These photos I shot with a Knoxville photographer, Kelsey Shea Photography and they really sparked my creativity. They were just what I needed! So if you’re somewhere along your creative journey and are feeling burnt out all on your own, find a friend to collaborate with! It can make all the difference!
