Sorry for the lack of Heart Happy-s over the past two weeks! Don’t worry, I’ve definitely been happy, just a little exhausted by the time we get to Thursday night to write them. But today I’m back and I’m super excited to share a few of my smart shopping secrets here on P&T and on my local news station (watch my segment here)! These secrets are all about when to know what items to splurge on and which ones to save on!
Splurge vs. Save: Bags
Save: Save on occasion bags, trendy bags or tote bags. I love a fun clutch for nights out but I definitely don’t need a $150 one. Same for beach bags or everyday tote bags. Save your money on those bags and invest on something you’ll use every day!
Splurge: Splurge on everyday bags. The ones you’re going to use day in and day out. No one wants to spend $60 on a purse that breaks or shows serious wear and tear in 3 months so splurge on a nice designer bag. My 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli was definitely a splurge but I love it!
Splurge vs. Save: Dresses
Save: Save on everyday dresses that you’ll wear all season long. I love a good, comfortable, everyday dress that can be my go-to for anything! Something that you don’t mind sweating in and you don’t mind spending all day in. That way if it gets stained, dirty, sweaty, etc. you don’t mind just tossing it!
Splurge: Splurge on a nice occasion dress that you’ll get a lot of wear out of. Something that you can wear to a wedding or two and can save for any other special occasion you might have coming up. Try going for a classic LBD or a timeless shape/print that way it never goes out of style. 5 years down the road you can break it back out like it’s brand new!
Splurge vs. Save: Denim
Save: Save on trendy denim. Distressed, colored, boyfriend shape, etc. These likely won’t be in style in 5 years and you won’t mind tossing them to the back of the closet until they make their way back around.
Splurge: Splurge on classic dark wash denim that fit your body type perfectly! I love my Citizens of Humanity flares and they were worth every penny! A classic shape and a dark wash will never go out of style! I suggest a pair of flares and a pair of skinnies.
Splurge vs. Save: Jewelry
Save: Save on trendy statement jewelry. Some of those big chunky necklaces get old quick so save on those and anything that could potentially go out of style quickly.
Splurge: Splurge on personalized classic jewelry that you’ll wear often and for years to come! Think monograms and initials that are personal, fun and true to your style.
Splurge vs. Save: Shoes
Save: Save on everyday sandals you’re just going to wear out! Sandals get a lot of wear and tear on them so you won’t be as heartbroken when those Target sandals break as you would with an expensive pair!
Splurge: Splurge on a great pair of black or nude pumps and a great pair of neutral wedges. You’ll get a lot of wear out these and your feet will thank you for spending a little extra on them!
