Happy Friday! Today I’m back on my local news station talking about one of my favorite parts of dressing for fall; layers! {Watch my Fall Layering segment here!} I love putting together the perfectly layered outfit so I’m sharing my tips, my favorite wardrobe staples for layering and some of the easiest layered outfits.
My #1 rule for layering is start with an easy base layer. A good tank & jeans, a neutral dress (black, brown, chambray) or even a neutral skirt & blouse combo. Today’s outfits can literally all be worn over a simple black dress that you probably already have in your closet. Super easy! Here’s a breakdown of some of my favorite fall layering pieces.
Flannel
A flannel button down can be a layering lifesaver! It can be worn as a lightweight layer, for days you need a layer but not quite a jacket, or it can be worn as a middle layer (seen in the next photo). This particular piece is actually a sleeveless shirt dress that I wear unbuttoned often but just a standard flannel, plaid or buffalo check shirt also gets the job done!

Utility Jacket
A flattering utility jacket is in my opinion is a wardrobe MUST! They go with everything and are pretty much the easiest thing to wear! (I’ve already worn this one layered with a tank and jeans & layered over a dress.) Bonus points if you add in the flannel as a middle layer!

Vest
A vest is always a must for me! There are so many different styles and options that everyone can find one that works for them. I love this brown quilted one but also love fur vests and shearling vests for late fall & winter. And again, wear it with the simplest black outfit, a dress & tights or black pants & black top and you’ve got an easy, put together look.
Kimono
Kimonos are my jam! I seriously can’t get enough these days! They’re so easy and make such a statement. They can easily be worn over dresses or in this case over a tank top & a pair of skinny jeans. This is one of my “throw & go” outfits that can always be thrown on and look put together. I may have already worn this outfit twice this week. #oops
{Outfit post coming next week!}
I have admired you from afar since you first started 4-H. Bursting with pride to see you fulfilling your dream. No, I’m not a stalker, just a close friend of your sweet grandmother, Becky.
Obsessed with every outfit.
