I think we all know by now we need to be wearing a facial sunscreen right?! Whether you do or don’t know all the benefits of daily sunscreen use this will be a great reminder!
I definitely thought that the SPF in my makeup was good enough until my dermatologist told me otherwise a couple years ago so I started incorporating it into my morning routine. I will say though it took me a while to figure out the best sunscreen for my skin. It needs to be one that won’t irritate your face AND one that layers well after your skincare routine and before your makeup. It’s harder than it seems! So today I’m sharing the benefits of daily sunscreen use and my favorite facial sunscreen!
5 Benefits of Daily Sunscreen Use:
Facial sunscreen should be worn every day! Even in the winter, on overcast days and if you’re not even really going outside. You’d be surprised at how much the sun actually touches your face even when you’re not “trying.” An estimated 90% of skin damage is caused by sun exposure.
Helps Prevent Premature Aging
Sun causes aging. I could literally slap myself for laying in the tanning bed when I was in high school and college! I have so much sun damage on my face that I now am working to reverse. If only I would have known back then! AND it’s never too late to start! Start today!
Even Skin Tone
Keeping your whole face protected from the sun can also help even out your skin tone. Keep it all protected and treated the same and you’ll be shocked at how much your skin evens out.
Reduces Risk of Skin Cancer
Both of my parents are going through lots of skin cancer removals right now. I know it’s easy to say, “oh that’ll never happen to me” but it can. And even the not scary skin cancer is scary when they’re cutting it off of your face!! Just keep it protected now and you won’t have to worry about any skin cancers popping up later!
What Sunscreen to Use?!
So now that we can all agree that sunscreen is necessary, what sunscreen is best?! Sunscreen is actually more complicated than you think, there’s mineral sunscreen, chemical sunscreen, broad-spectrum sunscreen?! What does it all mean?! The main different between chemical and mineral sunscreens is – chemical sunscreens are absorbed into the skin & mineral sunscreens sit on top of the skin to block the sun. Mineral sunscreen protects from UVA & UVB rays, is effective immediately and won’t clog your pores, so it’s a great choice for a facial sunscreen. Chemical does allow for some UVA exposure and since it absorbs into the skin can irritate or exacerbate acne or rosacea.
So with all that said, I’ve tried lots of facial sunscreens and my favorite by far is the Monat Sun Veil! I had the worst time last summer with my face breaking out from the sunscreen I was using. But the Monat Sun Veil is so good and I don’t even feel like I’m putting sunscreen on! It’s just a part of my skincare routine now. It’s a mineral broad spectrum sunscreen that doesn’t leave any kind of white cast on your skin. It works seamlessly with your current morning skincare and makeup routine. One simple step that can save your skin and make you look younger?! Yes, please!
